For the night of 3 January 2013
Administrative note: NightWatch will not be published for the night of 3 January because the news services have reported no significant changes in the international threat environment.
NightWatch follows the sun, starting at the international dateline. The order of country or event coverage is always the same, starting with the Pacific Ocean states and moving west.
It is not a source of original reporting, but an executive commentary on international developments that the news services have reported AND which threaten the United States, its persons, territory and interests and those of its allies and friends. It is always a threat analysis of international developments, not a news commentary.
It was begun seven years ago at the specific request of senior officials and military flag-rank officers of the US intelligence community for threat analysis based solely on information in the public domain. It reaches an audience of over a million readers.
Happy New Year to all our brilliant Readers!
End of NightWatch for 3 January.
